In a move to strengthen digital capacity within Nigeria’s public sector, Toko Academy recently delivered a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills workshop for staff of the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO). The session was held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the State Operations Coordinating Unit in Yola, and brought together staff members eager to learn how modern technology can improve everyday work and public service delivery.

The 90-minute training was led by Daniel Ishaku, CEO of Toko Academy, who introduced participants to the fundamentals of AI, the different ways it is used across industries, and how it is already transforming how organizations operate. The session connected these ideas directly to NASSCO’s work, showing how AI can support better data handling, faster reporting, and improved efficiency in service delivery. Participants were encouraged to approach AI with curiosity rather than fear, and to adopt these tools responsibly to enhance productivity.

Beyond theory, the workshop emphasized practical application. Participants practiced using AI tools to draft short reports related to their daily responsibilities and explored creative use cases such as generating images and short videos for communication and awareness. They were also guided on how to recognize AI-generated content, helping them avoid misinformation as digital tools become more common in the workplace. Digital safety was a key focus throughout the session, with practical tips on protecting personal and organizational information, identifying suspicious links, and avoiding phishing attempts.

By the end of the workshop, participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on learning experience and noted increased confidence in using AI to support their work. Many shared that the training helped demystify AI and showed clear, practical ways technology can drive productivity and innovation within the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office in Yola. This initiative reflects Toko Academy’s commitment to expanding access to relevant digital skills and supporting institutions to work smarter in an increasingly digital world.

He emphasized that before policies can be written, practitioners must first understand the terrain. It is no longer optional for lawyers to understand AI; it is essential to their duty of competence. A critical new skill required in the modern practice is the ability to identify AI-generated media and content, distinguishing truth from synthetic fabrication in evidence and testimony.
Addressing a common fear in the industry, the CEO tackled the question of familiarity and reliance on tools head-on. His charge to the practitioners gathered in Yola was distinct: Do not engage with AI out of laziness, or fear that it will replace your work. Engage with it to become better.
The goal of integrating AI into legal practice is augmentation. When used correctly, these tools make legal work faster, easier, and more accurate, rather than more complicated. The human element: judgment, ethics, and strategy, remains paramount, but AI can handle the heavy lifting of data processing and initial drafting.

Perhaps the most significant takeaway from the session was the call for a fundamental shift in perspective. The CEO urged Nigerian legal practitioners to evolve beyond being mere users of technology.
Given the current lack of policy, it falls upon the legal fraternity to become the architects of the ethical frameworks that will govern AI in Nigeria. Lawyers need to understand these tools deeply enough to create the necessary checks and balances, ensuring AI serves justice rather than undermining it.
Moving from theory to practice, the CEO highlighted several areas where AI tools are already revolutionizing legal workflows. He pointed to specific applications that can assist lawyers today in drafting:
Complex contract agreements.
Court and litigation documents.
Real estate documentation.
Policy and regulatory compliance documents. The presentation at Nigerian Law Week in Yola served as a wake-up call. The future of law is intertwined with AI. At Toko Academy, we remain committed to equipping professionals with the skills necessary to not only navigate this new landscape but to lead it. The time for the Nigerian legal community to engage is now.
